All the collages in this continuing series were created using clippings from 1950's magazines. The first layer of each collage consists of a variety of ephemera, including decorative papers, old book pages, vintage wallpaper, handwritten letters and recycled papers that I dye, paint, and sometimes burn for a varied effect. During these first stages, the collages are a lot like abstract mixed media pieces; the backgrounds are randomly created and then I search through old magazines for the perfect image or focal point. None of these collages are planned; they're all random in nature. I never know what the final collage will look like until I glue the last piece of paper down or put the last scribble into place.
